Agriculture, Fisheries and Aerospace |
Agriculture, fisheries, and aerospace are the major economic drivers on Prince Edward Island. Science and technology are central to all three.
STAS supported the development of two SchoolNet websites which focus on the history and science and technology of potatoes and of fisheries and aquaculture. They are excellent resources for science fair projects and school assignments.
- The Potato: Then and Now explores the potato from the Incas to modern PEI. The science and technology of potato production and processing, pests, and diseases are all included. The Potato: Then and Now has been the Featured Site in Industry Canada's SchoolNet Digital Collections and on November 1, 1999, was chosen as Yahoo! Canada Pick of the Week

- PEI Fisheries: Then and Now describes developments in fisheries and aquaculture through the years. Both finfish and shellfish are discussed.
Aerospace is also a leading economic force in PEI, particularly in Slemon Park. Information on science and technology developments in aerospace on PEI can be obtained by visiting the Slemon Park Aerospace Centre homepage.
